Trial and Improvement
Trial and improvement is a method which involves substituting the unknown value with different values until we come across one that works
Trial and Improvement is used as a method when solving an equation where there is no exact answer

lets give a shot...
so here we have fully worked trial and improvement question on the left , i'm going to go through it so it makes sense
firstly digest the information from the equation '2x+13=47'
now remember we need to find out what x equals
so we can estimate starting from any number until we get a value that fits into the equation perfectly .
15 is the first estimated value , as there is 2x's we must times 15 by two and then add 13 that must equal 47 if it is right
but sadly this isn't the case as it equals 43 (thats too small)
hmmm lets try a bigger number, 20
now we times 20 by 2 = 40 then add 13 which equals 53 -thats way too big
so 15 is too small and 20 just too big how about trying something between them
....18
18x2+13=49
that still is too big
now let us see whether 17 is any luck
2x17+13=47 yay!! we've struck gold
Do you now understand the concept of trial and improvement ?
it is simply using estimations to help your answers flow and to be able to put them into 'too big' too small' and 'bingo' catergories
